Real Madrid overcame a 1-2 deficit at halftime to upset CD Leganés 3-2 and earn three crucial points in a thrilling La Liga match at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Thirty-two minutes into play, Mbappé opened the score from the spot. At this point, a foul on Arda Güler inside the box, and the Frenchman made no mistake in putting the ball past the keeper with a clinical finish.

It was at that point that Madrid looked to be totally in control, with the Bernabéu going bananas.

What came next, however, left both the home crowd and the Madrid camp in awe as Leganés began the unthinkable, miraculous recovery.

Leganés Stunned Madrid Before Half-Time

Leganés mounted a defensive response even after conceding. They charged forward to press high and to exploit gaps in Madrid’s defense. In the 33rd” minute, their persistence paid off after Diego García netted with a neat finish from a well-built team play.

Now Madrid’s defensive mistake opened the door for Leganés to start growing their confidence and began dominating the ball, pushing forward with intensity.

Before the interval, Leganés shocked Madrid once more. Following another well-built play to exploit Madrid’s defensive gaps, and was finished by Dani Raba in the 41st minute of the game.

This shocking goal left the visitors leading 2-1 at half-time, while the Madrid faithful sat in silence.

The Comeback Was Sealed by Bellingham and Mbappé

Carlo Ancelotti’s half-time talk must have been fiery because Madrid came out with an extraordinarily rejuvenated design. The urgency ramped up as Madrid charged on in search of an equalizer, and it wasn’t long before Jude Bellingham delivered.

In minute 47, the English midfielder from the edge of the box tried to score, which was, however, saved by the goalkeeper.

The rebound fell into the legs of Brahim Diaz, whose shot was cleared of the line; however, Bellingham was in the mix to hammer it in. It was an equalizer—nothing more, nothing less—and it re-energized the spirit of the Madrid players.

Now that the momentum was theirs, Madrid continued the relentless assault on the Leganés defense. It was the 75th minute that proved to be the crucial moment, when Mbappé showcased his class yet again.

A free kick was provided to Madrid at the edge of the box, which was scored by Kylian Mbappé, with Arda Güler giving a slight touch pass. Mbappé Fired it in the corner with the goalkeeper having no chance.

Madrid capped up a well-deserved victory, thus tightening their defense in the last painful seconds of the game.

The victory-seized states the meaning of it in the La Liga title race.

The temporary equalization of points with Barcelona is won along with the victory. However, the Catalan side has a game in hand. Every point counts at this time of the season, and this is the reminder about how Madrid will win when they will, and where.

For Leganés, it was gut-wrenching defeat, nevertheless, they proved to the big-guns by pushing against the wall that they were able to compete. Their fighting spirit would give just that little injection of confidence pushing forward as they look towards a strong finish in La Liga.

The battle at the top is far from over, and there will not be a match from now on that will not be crucial for Madrid’s championship aspirations.
