Nottingham Forest had drawn the curtains of their Premier League campaign at City Ground with an ear-splitting but still dreamy scoreline against the marauding Manchester United 1-0 on April 1, 2025. In the heat of some intense collective defensive play enhanced by a continuing athletic pursuit by Anthony Elanga, the team in red-shirred jerseys earned the maximum points without leaving a mark from the otherwise bright United’s stars on the scoreboard, thus lighting their hope to rank among the best for the season in three-point terms.

Nottingham Forest; that was intense, and they pressed high to spoil the build-up play of United. The intensity worked for them when an ex-Man U player Anthony Elanga made his run when the time was right into a through ball, finished it past André Onana. The once-golden Swedish winger at Old Trafford celebrated passionately putting his now-current side ahead against his earlier club’s interest.

So United wanted an immediate reply in tuning the game back into their favor, but attempts were all for naught against the already intimidating Forest defense. The likes of Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford tried to work into the lines but all ended up fruitless with the attempts of Scott McTominay’s long-range not worrying the keeper Matt Turner. The shutout backline marshalling of Murillo and Felipe for Forest held up firmly to get half time locked at 1 – 0 for the hosts.

The second half witnessed Manchester United dominate possession in a bid to find the breakthrough. Erik ten Hag’s side introduced Alejandro Garnacho and Antony into the game for added speed, with the urgency stepping up. However, even when the display had burst into frantic energy, Forest kept controlled, closing down their passing lanes, and frustrating United’s attacking players.

The Red Devils’ best chance came in the 78th minute when Rasmus Højlund’s powerful header appeared destined for the back of the net before Matt Turner sprang into action with an extraordinary reflex save to deny the equalizer. With time running down, United became desperate, but a lack of clinical finishing cost them dearly.

Nottingham Forest had managed the game perfectly, running down the clock and restricting United from causing any serious trouble. It was all joy at the City Ground as home fans celebrated a vital win in their survival bid against relegation.
