Hardik Himanshu Pandya is an Indian international cricketer. He played domestic cricket for the Baroda cricket team and for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). All-rounder Hardik batted with his right hand and fast medium with his right hand.

First life

Hardik Pandya was born on 11 October 1993 in Surat, Gujarat. His father Himanshu Pandya ran a small car finance business in that town. When Hardik was five years old, he wrapped up the business and moved to Vadodara to train his two sons. There he enrolled his sons in the Kiran More Cricket Academy. Not being financially well off, the Pandya family lived in a rented house in the Gorwa area and the two brothers used to go to the cricket ground in a used car. Hardik studied up to ninth grade in MK High School and then dropped out of school to concentrate on cricket.


Domestic cricket

He made his cricketing debut for the Baroda cricket team in 2013 under the leadership of Yusuf Pathan. He was instrumental in the Baroda team winning the Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy in the 2013-14 season.

2015 Indian Premier League

Hardik got his first chance to play in the 2015 IPL. Mumbai Indians bought him for Rs 10 lakh as the base price in the IPL auction. Umesh Yadav, Sunil Narine and Andre Russell’s bowling line-up helped Kolkata Knight Riders win the toss and elected to bat. Winning the match was crucial for the Mumbai Indians to secure a place in the top four in that tournament. Hardik also won the second Man of the Match award in that tournament.

Hardik played an unbeaten 6-year innings for the Baroda cricket team in the Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy in January 2016. He hit eight sixes in that innings. The Baroda cricket team also won the match by six wickets against the Vidarbha cricket team.

Mumbai Indians put him in the team in 2018 IPL.

International cricket:

T20I Career

Hardik Pandya made his Twenty20 International debut for India on 27 January 2016 against the Australian side in Adelaide. Pandya had a horror start to the match as he bowled 5 wides in his first international over and went for 19 runs. However, he came back in sharply and scalped two wickets by only giving 18 runs in his last 3 overs.
He has been part of India’s T20 WC squad in 2016 where he bowled the final over against Bangladesh and defended 2 runs off the final 3 balls.

ODI Career

On 16 October 2016, Pandya made his One Day International (ODI) debut against New Zealand at Dharamsala. Hardik was awarded Man of the Match on his debut. He thus became only the fourth Indian to be named player of the match on ODI debut after Sandeep Patil, Mohit Sharma and K. L. Rahul. Hardik’s performances in the 2017 Champions Trophy were lauded by the entire cricketing world. Following his 2017 performances, Hardik was selected in the ODI XI of the year 2017 by Cricinfo. Hardik Pandya was also a part of the 2019 WC squad which reached till the semi-finals of the tournament.

Test Carrier

Despite all his power-hitting and aggressive batting style, Pandya has had a decent and steady test career. The Gujarat-born lad was picked up for the Test series against Sri Lanka. He played his first test on 26 July in Galle and scored his maiden test half-century.

In the third test against Sri Lanka, Pandya scored 108 to become the first Indian batsman to score a Test century before lunch.

He also set the record for scoring the most number of runs in a single over of a Test innings for India, scoring 26 runs. Pandya followed it up with a 93 in his next test series against South Africa.

To date, Pandya has played 11 tests, scoring 532 runs in 18 innings at an average of 31.29. He has scored 5 half-centuries and one century.

Personal Life:

Hardik Pandya got engaged to Natasa Stankovic on a private boat on 1 Jan 2020. Their son was born on 30 June 2020. The duo did not have a big wedding ceremony but had posted a picture of a private family function during the COVID-19 lockdown. The pictures that were posted on May 31 revealed a family function but that does not confirm that it was their wedding. Therefore, the exact date of the couple’s wedding is unknown
